| Description = Two-thirds of my way through a 2-week road trip, I left Vancouver and re-entered US for the final stretch back to Los Angeles. And my first stateside stop is the Boeing widebody aircraft assembly plant in Everett, 30 minutes north of Seattle, where I can take a tour (absolutely no photos allowed) and also do planespotting. Dozens of 747-8s and 787s around (plus another 787 not visible - N20904, United Airlines' first 787, in the paint shop).

My travel companion, having traveled well over 3,000 miles through the US interior west, the Canadian Rockies, and Vancouver, is now taking a much-needed rest at the Future of Flight parking area, where Boeing's factory tours leave. And a very fitting place too, since Boeing's Everett assembly plant is the birthplace of many of my past travel companions. My past travels by air often took place on early-build Boeing 767s and 777s operated by United Airlines, and indeed they were all built here. The most special of them all, N771UA (a very early 777), took her first flight on 2 August 1994, the very day I had come here for the very first time, and went on to fly me home from a nightmare visit to the Netherlands five years later.

(Though as I reminisce about a past travel companion that had brought me home in full Sapphic glory after a week of Muslim immigrant homophobia in the Netherlands, I am less than pleased to have a present travel companion that hails from South Korea, a country currently under full-blown fascist restoration, especially given that Korean homophobia in Los Angeles is as much of a menace as Muslim homophobia in Amsterdam. It is my only real complaint about my car, but still a huge one.)
