::::::No, you shouldn't have even imposed yourself until it became a clear problem. One revert makes an edit war?? I think you just throw these terms around because you can. They don't apply, and they certainly don't justify protecting the file. There are files here that have actually been edit warred on, sometimes even dozens of reverts before they get protected, while this file is reverted once and you just jump in, protect it, call it vandalism, and then when the user asks you (not rudely I might add, I did say "excuse me") why you think it was vandalism when it's been that way for 2 years, you just double down and accuse him of edit warring and order him to not crop things of others "who know what they're doing" suggesting I don't. The whole way you've approached this is the problem, not any one thing. You're rude for no real reason, over-bearing and reactionary, and those are things I do not respond well to.
