DPLA looks promising [http://dp.la/2013/03/22/a-plan-for-libraries-to-aggregate-metadata-into-one-central-portal/ ] [http://dp.la/2013/03/12/national-archives-to-help-launch-the-digital-public-library-of-americas-pilot-project/ ]...hopefully they intend to make the metadata available. The NYTimes also has an [http://developer.nytimes.com/gallery_alpha api], with some interesting uses. Ultimately, once the data is available in a structured way, its easy to work with...but first you have to make the data set structured. I've uploaded the higher-res pics, I'll move the files sometime with the bot.
