While using green as disused blue is simply silly (considering the [[#Deriving the ex-shade given an RGB|precedent set by regular red and blue]]), I would say that cascades of successive ex-colors, like among the [[#Grays]] '''should also not be accepted''', because it would wreak havoc in the naming. F.i. — if dark grey is the ex-version of black, all icons in that color will be named "exFOO_black", and that’s all good, but if then we assume that light grey is the ex-version of dark grey, we’d have two possible names for a dark grey icon — either "exFOO_black" or "exFOO_grey", as it would be simultaneaously a standalone color and an ex-derivative. There should (as actually there is) a separate grey on its own, different from black’s ex-version, with its own, lighter ex-version:
