This millinery worker is removing a newly-formed cone of felt from the copper cone on which the felt has formed. Other workers can be seen behind him, as he eases the fabric away from the upside-down cone. The machinery behind each work bench is known as a forming machine. Fluffy rabbit fur is fed into the back of the machine by a female worker. This fur is then sucked through the machine and is drawn onto the copper cone, which spins at the base of the machine. The fur is sprayed with hot water and felt is gradually formed. There is normally a greater weight of felt at the base of the cone, as this will be used to form the brim of the hat.}}
