Maria is a perfect example of a tropical cyclone which has undergone the extratropical transition process, but did while it was moving relatively slowly. In most transistions, the cyclone speeds up as it becomes extratropical, casing it's circulation center to become highly elongated and exposed. However, this was not the case with Maria, which was slow-moving when it transited. This cased Maria to become less elongated than most extratropical cyclones, and Maria maintained an exposed, slightly elliptical circulation center, which consisted of Marine Stratocumulus clouds. Maria was one of the few storms with an interesting extratropical transition.
