Gates Pass Road, which heads west from Tucson over the Tucson Mountains into Avra Valley and leads to Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Old Tucson Movie Studios, and Saguaro National Park West, is one of my favorite drives in Arizona - or anywhere for that matter. There is nothing like seeing saguaros rise as far as my eyes can see.

Tucson was my 2001 poverty-area home; I used to drive a previously wrecked Ford Contour at that time, and on some days I could not afford even gasoline or a meal. Although I had briefly come back in 2006 to visit Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum on my way back to California from Carlsbad Caverns, 2010 is my first real return to Tucson since those poverty days, and it's so nice to be back in a nice luxury car that is fully paid for - not to mention more than $20 in my purse.
