| Description = Four days after leaving home in Los Angeles, I have reached the northernmost point of my drive: Jasper, Alberta, Canada. The most direct distance from Los Angeles would have been 1,750 miles, and comes out about the same whether I use the route I actually used (I-15 to Calgary and Banff, then Icefields Parkway) or the coastal route (I-5 to Vancouver area, then British Columbia 5 via Kamloops). However, due to sightseeing detours around Yellowstone National Park, I have racked up over 2,000 miles by this point. I am now flirting with North 53 Degrees of Latitude; Los Angeles is only 34, while the US-Canada border is 49.

My visit to Jasper is really a quick stop; my sightseeing emphasis for the day is the Icefields Parkway, which connects Jasper to Banff and forms Alberta Highway 93. The northbound Icefields Parkway is on the left of this photo; its speed limit sign shows a decrease of the limit to 70 km/h from 90, as the road nears the town. Those Canadian speed limit signs are smaller than their US counterparts and often looked like route number markers!
