The Hyundai Genesis is my car, while the Ford F-150 next to it belongs to a fellow guest at the hotel. Both are 2009 models.

For the year 2009, the two vehicles had won the [http://www.northamericancaroftheyear.org/ North American Car and Truck of the Year] awards, handed out annually by a 50-member panel since 1995. The Genesis' win for the car portion of the award marked the first time that a Korean automobile ever won the award, the first time an Asian luxury automobile won the award, and the fourth time overall that an Asian car of any kind won the award. Glad to be driving around in a winner.

Hyundai would repeat the win in 2012 with its redesigned Elantra compact, becoming the first Asian automaker to win the North American Car of the Year Award twice.

It's about 6:30 in the morning. I have a long day ahead - over 1,000 miles back to my home in suburban Los Angeles. I would drive more or less continuously, except for a refueling stop in Fruita in western Colorado, as well as a refueling and dinner stop in Las Vegas. It would be just past 9 in the evening by the time I get home. The drive was quite enjoyable, and I was feeling fresh enough to continue going for perhaps another two hours.
