Sergeant M M "Big Momma" Swindele kicks his leg into the air during an early morning Physical Training session on the parade ground of 8th Convalescent Hospital, Stoneleigh Park. Sergeant Swindele is originally from Oakman, Alabama and fractured his ankle, which is clearly heavily bandaged, in the British blackout. He is in the lowest grade of trainees, grade D, which means that he has quite a way to go before he reaches grade A and full fitness. According to the original caption, the day begins at 6:30am and PT with instructors trained by the British Army is alternated with military training.}}
