:As you can see [http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:St._Louis_Estes_photo_2_%282%29.jpg&action=history here], it was deleted because "No license since 17 April 2012". The fact that a photo was taken in 1928 in the United States doesn't automatically mean that it's in the public domain...

When it becomes possible to upload source files?
−
−
Source files are
−
* Spreadsheets (Excel, OpenOffice, ...)
−
* Source Code of Computer programs (Matlab, Octave, but also C, C#, C++, Visual Basic, ...)
−
−
They are used for the following things:
−
* Generate Images, Graphics, Videos, Sounds
−
* Generates wikicode of complex tables
−
* Reliable primary source (not copied from another unreliable "source", but the exact culculation)
−
−
Currently Wikimedia only allow to upload secondary products. The primary data must be kept
−
on the own computer, so
−
* the information can be lost
−
* no one can complete/correct these information
−
* no one can prove the calculation
−
−
To my mind this should be solved. {{unsigned|Frank Klemm|20:08, 13 March 2013}}

::This has previously been sporadically discussed on [[Commons talk:File types]] (and its archives), among other places. Wikimedia Commons is for media (visual, audio, or audio-visual), not really data as such. A relatively small amount of source code or data used to generate an image can just be cut-and-pasted onto the image's description page (see [[:Category:Images including source code in their description]]). A very large amount of data used to generate an image may not be fully compatible with Commons' stated goals and policies...
