*I disagree, we don't need more instructions for new users. We had a wall of text before and no one actually read it. We have a serious problem with instruction creep and also one with intuitive workflows. This problem is so bad that the WMF had to force it upon us and from here, that's not actually a bad thing. ::A "wall of text" is not the same as a few concise and targeted instructions to deal with an arguably serious problem. That said, I get what you're saying. But somewhere between nothing and "wall of text" might be a useful solution... probably better than the nothing that exists now. – [[User:Jbarta|JBarta]] ([[User talk:Jbarta#top|talk]]) 03:10, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

How many times do we have to have this discussion ? It comes up about every year or so. "We should educate more". The people don't care. And the only result of stonewalling them with informative text is that everyone thinks "what an unpleasant upload interface, I'm going to flickr/FB/Instagram etc". No, what we actually mean to say here is that we as a community are too lazy to do the cleanup after those of the community who do not yet understand or do not want to understand. Well tough luck, you will never get rid of the maintenance and if you don't want to do it, then don't. The better solution here is always to enable those who DO understand and do want to do maintenance. So building better tools, filters etc. There are millions of people on Foursquare and Facebook who have no clue about how to maintain locations, but those companies have build tools to enable the few idiots who do know/care/have too much time and it works surprisingly well. In terms of crowd sourced information, we are a lot alike with them. If we want to have public uploads, we will always have to do maintenance. If we want to stay relevant, we should be a welcoming community, so we don't decline. [[User:TheDJ|TheDJ]] ([[User talk:TheDJ|talk]]) 09:17, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
