:::The meaning was, it was published and got popular, so it's hard to find were it began. None of the sites which are using this image claimed ownership on it as the creator or referred the ownership to another person. The question is, if something like an Internet meme can be copyrighted. Those are published totally ignoring of copyrights issues, so it's really hard to tell who was the first to publish it.
