Unfortunately, there was a mass-deletion nomination ([Commons:Deletion requests/Fictional Papal Arms‎]]) which was made prematurely by an anonymous IP and largely supported with poorly-reasoned arguments, so that it hasn't brought much clarity to the overall situation. It's hard to see how there can be too much cleanup without uploading new images until the deletion nomination is somehow resolved...
