These photos were taken by 'a German seaman', to quote the image description: "the Pictures Were Taken From a German Trawler Which Had Been Sent Out To Take the Shark in Tow. They Came Into the Possession of the Admiralty." As a result, it is not expired Crown Copyright', but probably German WW2 civilian or government copyright, which may not be in the public domain. :vk The photographer is unknown, consequently the 70 year rule applies in any country under European conventions on copyright. In the UK, Crown copyright applies as stated for this photograph. --Fæ (talk) 12:33, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

::It is not that simple. The 70 years start to count not at the moment when the photograph was taken but when the photograph was published first. Hence, we would need a proof that the photograph was already published in 1942 which appears to be unlikely. And then URAA needs to be considered. --AFBorchert (talk) 22:27, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
