::::: If it is clearly stated that it's in the "public domain" it's okay to use it. Also if you have taken the image yourself. In that case, the metadata from the image will show on the page at the bottom. It will show the time it was taken, the exposure, the camera make, etc.. That's assuming it was a digital camera.
