proposal to change category names
New pageI am thinking of changing the category names of log structures, log building, log cabins, log houses, log homes to be more accurate. Technically a log is a bole of a tree after it is felled but before it is converted into a timber (beam, etc). Some log buildings, log cabins in particular, use round wood (logs) and the term log cabin is technically correct. Most "log" buildings are built with shaped timbers, mostly rectangular but some triangular such as the Japanese type. In the U.S. some are called "plank frames" because the timbers are very rectangular or plank-like, not logs. The more correct term is timber houses rather than log homes or log houses. The German blockbau buildings are almost always rectangular timbers. Most of the "log" buildings in Scandinavia are already categorized as timber buildings.
