The template {{tl|User:Fæ/IWM}} is used for most of the files in sub-categories as a custom data ingestion template for batch uploads. Improvements to this template will affect all files. {{tl|IWM Collections}} adds this top level category unless the ''nocat'' parameter is set.

The Imperial War Museum online archives includes images from German photographers during and before WWII. These may be considered property of the Ministry of Information after having been seized or received during war action, bringing them under Crown Copyright provisions. Though they may be consequently public domain in the UK, it may be that they are not suitable for publication in Germany as the rights of any named photographer may still apply there. Consequently, to be hosted on Commons, photographs from named German photographers who have not been dead for 70 years or longer, will require a reuse licence that can apply in Germany, in addition to the expired Crown Copyright in the UK.
